Hino Launches Le Series Battery-Electric Truck with Up to 33,000-lb GVWR

“Introducing the Le Series is an important step in our efforts to reduce environmental impact and support our customers’ sustainability goals.”

— Rodney Shaffer, Vice President of National Accounts and Zero-Emission Vehicles at Hino Trucks

Hino Trucks unveiled the new Le Series battery-electric truck at ACT Expo 2026. The truck is available in two configurations: 25,950-lb (L6e) and 33,000-lb (L7e) GVWR. Production is set to begin in the third quarter of 2026.

What This Means for Your Wallet and Your Miles

The introduction of the Le Series offers an opportunity to cut fuel costs with its electric powertrain, which uses a battery system rated at 269 kWh and offers fast charging capabilities. You could charge up to 80% in as little as 1.8 hours at DC fast charging stations.

The Le Series is designed to enhance energy efficiency and range, potentially reducing your operating expenses over time. The electric truck promises quieter rides and instant torque, which might make for a smoother driving experience.

For those involved in upfitting, the back-of-cab design simplifies the process, making it easier to adapt the truck for various applications. This could mean less downtime and more time on the road.

Standard safety features like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warnings could help you avoid accidents, potentially lowering insurance costs and keeping you safe on the road.

  • Keep an eye on the third quarter of 2026 when production of the Le Series is scheduled to begin.
  • Watch for updates on charging infrastructure, as fast-charging access will impact your efficiency.
  • Look for potential incentives or rebates for adopting electric vehicles in your region.
  • How quickly can the Le Series truck charge?

The Le Series can reach an 80% charge in about 1.8 hours using DC fast charging at 120 kW.

What are the available weight configurations for the Le Series?

The truck is available in two configurations: 25,950-lb (L6e) and 33,000-lb (L7e) GVWR.

What kind of power does the Le Series offer?

The Le Series provides 260 kW (348 hp) of peak power and 180 kW (241 hp) of continuous power through a two-speed automatic transmission.

What safety features are included in the Le Series?

Standard features include automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning systems.

When will the Le Series be available?

Production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026.

President Donald Trump said he would prioritize trade discussions during his summit with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and downplayed the amount of attention they would devote to the Iran war.

“We have a lot of things to discuss. I wouldn’t say Iran is one of them, to be honest with you, because we have Iran very much under control,” he added. “We’re either going to make a deal, or they’re going to be decimated one way or the other.”

Trump is eager to secure business deals and hammer out details of a new board of trade to manage ties between the world’s two largest economies when he meets Xi, even as the Iran war has cast a shadow over the summit. The two sides are expected to discuss an extension of the trade truce they reached last fall.

China is a major purchaser of Iranian oil and has called for a swift reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which remains effectively shuttered as the U.S. blockades Iran’s ports and Tehran restricts the flow of other international traffic. The war has triggered a global energy crisis with world fuel reserves being drawn down.

Trump is under pressure to end the war and said previously he would press Xi over Beijing’s approach to Iran. But on May 12 he touted his relationship with Xi.

“My relationship with President Xi is a fantastic one. We’ve always gotten along, and we’re doing very well with China, and working with China has been very good, so we look forward to it,” Trump said.

Waymo is recalling thousands of robotaxis to fix a software issue that could cause the autonomous vehicles to drive on flooded roads.

The recall affects 3,791 vehicles equipped with the company’s fifth- and sixth-generation automated-driving system, according to documents posted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. The Alphabet Inc.-owned robotaxi business is working on a final remedy to address the problem, the agency said.

Waymo said in a statement that it has placed constraints on the system to limit access to higher-speed roadways where flash flooding might occur.

“We are working to implement additional software safeguards and have put mitigations in place, including refining our extreme weather operations during periods of intense rain,” the company said.

The decision stems from an April 20 incident in San Antonio, where an unoccupied Waymo robotaxi encountered “an untraversable flooded section of a roadway,” according to the documents. Rather than avoid the potentially dangerous street, the vehicle proceeded into floodwater at a reduced speed.

Waymo temporarily suspended robotaxi operations in the city after the incident. The company said it has resumed autonomous operations there but has not yet restarted rides for customers.

Although no one was injured and the recall is relatively small, the incident highlights the challenges for driverless vehicles to adapt to unpredictable weather and other unexpected roadway conditions without a human driver’s judgment. Waymo has been rolling out its robotaxi service in cities across the U.S. in a growing competition with the likes of Tesla Inc.

NHTSA has two separate investigations into Waymo’s self-driving vehicles. One is probing an incident in which a robotaxi struck a child near a school in Santa Monica, Calif., in January, while the other was opened after the company’s cars repeatedly failed to fully slow or stop for school buses last year.

The Trump administration is in the process of issuing more than $35.5 billion to importers who successfully filed for tariff refunds after the Supreme Court found the president’s signature economic policy unlawful, according to a new court filing.

The payments are being processed through a new online government portal and will include interest on duties paid across more than 8 million import entries, said Brandon Lord, executive director of trade programs for the Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Trade.

The scramble for refunds started immediately after the Supreme Court ruled Feb. 20 that President Donald Trump unlawfully used the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs on goods entering the country. The court’s 6-3 decision didn’t address the question of refunds, leaving it to the lower courts to hash out.

So far, more than 8.3 million of the accepted entries have been reprocessed to remove IEEPA duties. The court filing also said 1,880 consolidated refunds have not yet been sent to Treasury because the importer had not yet provided bank account information.

CBP had said in earlier court filings that the first phase won’t be able to accept claims for more than a third of the import entries at issue. The remaining entries have more complicated circumstances, and Customs officials haven’t specified a schedule for rolling out future phases of the refund program.

Payments for some of the first refund requests started reaching importers early last week, earlier than expected.
