Mark your calendars for these 2021 trucking events

Published

on

This past year many anticipated in-person trucking events scrambled to transition to online platforms and some even outright canceled or postponed due to COVID restrictions. With the rollout of the new COVID vaccine, there is hope that 2021 special events, truck shows, conferences, and conventions will be held in person once again.

Here is a list of events set for the 2021 calendar year:

April 7-10: Transportation Intermediaries Association Conference and Exhibition: The Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition is home to trucking’s leading fleet professionals, vehicle manufacturers, and component suppliers.

April 17-20: Truckload Carriers Association Annual Convention: Four days of educational sessions, networking, and exhibits for the truckload industry at the Wynn Las Vegas. The event includes keynote speaker Daymond John of ABC’s Shark Tank.

April 25-27: National Private Truck Council Annual Education Management Conference and Exhibition:  Over 1,250 attendees and 165 exhibitors, this event includes professional leadership sessions, exhibits, and networking opportunities.

May 4-6: Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance International Roadcheck: Annual three-day event when CVSA-certified inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement, and educational initiatives targeted at various elements of motor carrier, vehicle, and driver safety.

May 6-8: Kenley 95 Truckers Jamboree:  The 8th annual East Coast Trucker Jamboree to be held at the Kenley 95 Truck Stop on Interstate 95 in Kenley, North Carolina.

May 9: Mothers Day Convoy for Make-A-Wish for Philadelphia, Delaware, and Susquehanna Valley: Convoy draws 500 big rig trucks from across the country and thousands of spectators, both at the carnival and along the route, to cheer them on. The event celebrates current and former wish kids, while raising money to grant more wishes for children with critical illnesses. The event is located at the Manheim Auto Auction in Manheim, Pennsylvania. If an in-person event is not possible, it will be held virtually.

June 1-5: America Truck Historical Society National Convention & Truck Show: Antique truck show and featured speakers at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

June 18-19: Antique Truck Club of America 42nd Annual National Truck Meet: Also includes a flea market, located at Macungie Memorial Park, Macungie, Pennsylvania.

July 8-10: Walcott Truckers Jamboree: Located at the Iowa 80 Truck Stop on Interstate 80 in Walcott, Iowa.

July 11-17: CVSA Safe Driver Week: Annual one-week event where law enforcement agencies across North America engage in heightened traffic safety enforcement and education aimed at combating unsafe driving behaviors by both commercial motor vehicle and passenger-vehicle drivers. Activities are held across the United States, Canada and Mexico with the goal of increasing commercial vehicle and non-commercial vehicle traffic enforcement, safety belt enforcement, driver roadside inspections and driver regulatory compliance.

Aug. 22-28: CVSA Brake Safety Week: Inspectors conduct brake system inspections (primarily Level IV Inspections) on large trucks and buses throughout North America to identify out-of-adjustment brakes and brake-system violations. There will be an unannounced one-day brake safety enforcement initiative, which may be held at any time.

Sept. 12-18: National Truck Driver Appreciation Week: A week for America to pay respect and thank all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment.

Wondering about MATS and GATS? Unfortunately, the 2021 Great American Trucking Show was canceled by event coordinators way back in October of last year. Some aspects of the event will still go on through a 2021 virtual GATS week. It will include four events that celebrate the industry: Small Fleet Champ Award, Partners in Business, Pride & Polish and Trucker Talent Search.

The 50th anniversary of the Mid-America Trucking Show has been moved from its previously scheduled March timeframe. The event is expected to still take place in-person at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. Pending COVID-19, safety and security, the event will be held on either Sept. 16-18, 2021 or March 24-26, 2022. The decision should be made by mid-February.

All dates and locations are subject to change.

Can you legally carry in your Truck?

Published

on

By

Summary:
Truck drivers often face safety concerns on the road, leading many to consider carrying a firearm for protection. However, rules about carrying guns in trucks vary by federal and state laws, and there are even more restrictions when crossing borders into Canada or Mexico. This article breaks down these rules to help drivers understand what is and isn’t allowed.

News for You

Carrying a firearm in your truck might seem like a good way to stay safe, but there are important laws you need to know about before bringing a gun on the road. The rules can be confusing because they differ between federal and state laws, and if you’re driving into Canada or Mexico, things get even more complicated.

Federal vs. State Laws
There isn’t a specific federal law that stops you from having a gun in your truck, but federal regulations do come into play when you’re transporting goods between states. If you have a firearm, it needs to be stored correctly — usually unloaded and in a locked case separate from ammunition. Some states have their own rules about carrying guns in vehicles, so it’s important to know the laws of each state you’re traveling through. For example, states like California and New York have stricter gun laws compared to others like Texas or Arizona.

Crossing Borders into Canada or Mexico
Taking a firearm into Canada or Mexico is a whole different story. Canada has very strict gun laws, and you need special permits that are hard to get, especially if you have a criminal record. If you try to bring a gun into Canada without the right paperwork, you could be arrested and face serious penalties. In Mexico, the laws are even stricter — bringing a firearm can lead to arrest, heavy fines, and even imprisonment.

Driving Professionally
For professional truck drivers, carrying a gun could also affect your job. Many companies have their own policies that ban firearms in their vehicles, regardless of state or federal laws. If you’re caught breaking these rules, you could lose your job or face other penalties. It’s best to check with your employer’s policy before deciding to carry a firearm in your truck.

How This Affects You

For truck drivers, knowing the rules about carrying a firearm can help you avoid legal trouble and keep your job secure. If you’re considering carrying a gun for protection, it’s crucial to understand the differences in state and federal laws, as well as the specific rules for crossing into Canada or Mexico. Always check with your employer’s policy on firearms, as company rules may be stricter than the law. Staying informed will help you make the best decision for your safety and your career.
